What a weekend!!! Saturday morning it all began with the boys behind stepping out, Aaron and Mark, setting up the stepping out hang out. Mum and i arrived about 3pm to make sure all the formalities were under control, soon after we had Jacqui Harris, Amy Foran, Rachael Mcgarity, Bec Dilion, Kim Thompson, Emily and Helen Gough, Miss Katherine, Miss Leesa, Aaron and Dee Larkin for the opening ceremony.
Everyone did an amazing job but my stand out moment was the dedication of Emily and Helen who were first up to kick off the walk... about a half a lap around.. it started raining.. then it was POURING!!! .. by the time Helen and Emily came past they were drenched!! But this didnt stop them! they walked for the whole hour in the rain! Thank you girls! You did our team proud!
The "Hope" ceremony...WOW!! this was unreal.. too hard to put into words. the oval was lit up with hope bags.. in the middle the bags were lined up to spell "hope" which was then converted into the word "cure"! Sam (who i have spoken about before) spoke, telling her story. She added that her brother also had cancer a few years before her and sadly was taken by the illness (cancer). We all did a silent lap around the oval reflecting on those who are touched by cancer - patients, family, friends and to spread the word of hope, hope that those can beat cancer and we ultimately find a cure! I had heard about it before but it is something really touching.
I must also make mention of my mum Cathy, boyfriend Mark and friend Rachel Sullivan who were up in the early hours walking around with me at 5am!!!!!
We finished up with Miss Leesa and Aaron doing the final lap for the Stepping Out team and listening to the closing ceremony where they announced the total so far of $50,000.
A big big thank you to everyone who participated and helped raise money. I am yet to finalise our total but it is expected to be over $1200!!! GO US!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When i told the organiser how much we estimated we recieved "WOW!! THATS AWEOSME!!" so we did really well guys!!
A BIG thank you to Miss Steph who was unable to do the relay but who raise $100 for our team!! Also a special mention to Amy who sold an entire book of raffle tickets and to Cathy who sold 2 books!! From memory Jacqui, Kim and Bec were not far off the mark either. Appologies to anyone else who sold their entire book - please correct me!
SO GO TEAM STEPPING OUT!!! We did a great thing! think of all the people that we have helped!
Look out next year! lets make a goal to raise at least $1500!!!
