RELAY FOR LIFE INFO - WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

I have just got home from the 'Relay for Life' meeting. Tonight i had the privlidge to meet a cancer surviour.. she is only 21... At 15, her family and friends noticed something odd about her shoulder.. it turned out she had a type of cancer of the bone. She immediately had chemotherapy.. then radiation.. then more raditation.. and finally she had to have her arm removed. She then found out that the cancer had spread to her lungs. This girl is such an inspiration. She has survived cancer!!! She is now dedicated to educatin others about cancer prevention and helping raise funds to find a cure!

Those that have registered for the relay and are under 18 i need you to fill out a under 18's form. please get one from me in class this week.

I also have cancer carer and cancer surviour forms to receive a sash and participate in the carer and surviour walk. This is a very special and moving part of the relay, to thank those that do such an amazing job of caring for those in such a difficult time and to meet those who have survived cancer!

I am also selling "hope" bags for $1, which is a bag that is laid out at dusk with a candle inside spelling the word "hope". Hope that we can find a cure for cancer and hope that those can fight through cancer. You can write a message, draw a picture or dedicate your bag for someone who has been touched by cancer.

You can also "fast donate" through the relay for life website www.relay.cancercouncil.com.au go to "pink magic" (it is in the process of being changed to stepping out) and click "fast donate"

Or.. you can sell some raffle tickets or make a donation.

Lets get behind this amazing cause! every little bit makes a difference to help fight cancer!!!

The bar has been raised again for 'so you think you can dance.' I sat glued to the tv with a great sense of pride of knowing 2 of the top 20! and to be a country dancer!! all i can say is GO COUNTRY DANCERS!!! Eman and Charlie both came out an delivered amazing performances! Charlie, i have to say you NAILED IT!!!! I sat there in amazement and then recieved a text from Miss Rikki saying only "O my god". WALKERS WANTED FOR RELAY FOR LIFE

This year Stepping Out is participating in the Orange Relay For Life.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT???
Relay For Life is an event where teams of 10 to 15 people take turns walking or running around a local oval to raise funds for cancer research, education, support services and advocacy. Relay is for young and old and you can walk as many or few laps as you like. It's not a race and you don't need to run.

A festival-style atmosphere is created around the event with participants being encouraged to pitch a tent, camp overnight and enjoy the community atmosphere. Participants are entertained with bands, food and fun.

Each person on the team pays a registration fee which includes a polo shirt and breakfast. There is an early bird registration fee so get in early!

Relay is a fundraising event where team members are encouraged to raise $100 each. Fundraising can be fun and easy.

If you are interesting in helping us raise money for this amazing cause you can in three ways;

1. Become a team memeber. We need a team of 10 - 15 people to participate in the relay on 14th March, starting at 3.45pm at Endeavour oval.

2. Sell or buy raffle tickets. They are only $2 each. This year there are 16 amazing prizes to be won.

3. Participate in our "mufti day" at dancing. It will consist of students opting to dress up in a particular dance era for a gold coin donation. More information will be sent home in the next couple of weeks.

If you are interested in helping out this amazing cause please let me know asap at rachel.shearing@live.com.au or let me know in class.

Thanks =0)

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE 2009 IS FINALLY HERE!!!!!!

After months of anticipation it is FINALLY HERE!!! I feel the bar as been raised and Sydney has shown Australia and the world THEY CAN DANCE! I sat glued to the TV for the entire show, texting Miss Rikki and jumping up and down in excitement! I didn't think i could get any more excited until i saw THREE CENTRAL WEST talents appear one after the another!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I firstly saw Kym Watterson (aka, Watto) who many of you may know from the workshop in 2007. Charles from Dubbo came out with so much confidence and impressed the judges enough to put him through to choreography!!! (just to build the suspense) Of course he received a ticket through to the top 100!!! Straight after Charles, Mr Emmanuel "Eman" walked out on stage. (This was just an unreal moment for me as Eman and i have gone through school together since kindergarten). Again, of course he has made it through to the top 100 as well.

I felt such a great pride of being part of the Central West with actually knowing or competing against these boys was an unreal feeling, which many of you would have been experiencing as well.

The Sydney auditions showed many things,
1; STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF, the girl who came out with the face paint on blew me away! at first i thought it must have been a joke, but it was one of the most moving routines i have ever seen in my life. Her uniqueness got her through to the top 100.
2; FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS -DESPITE WHAT ANYONE SAYS, the brother and sister who auditioned despite her parents approval or support, their dedication to their dreams got the sister through to the top 100.
and 3; COUNTRY PEOPLE ARE NOT WITHOUT, by living in the country does not mean you aren't given the same opportunities as those in the city, if you work hard and want something enough, IT WILL HAPPEN!!
